Carlos Alcaraz’s incredible 2025 season ended with a defeat to Jannik Sinner in the championship match of the ATP Finals.
Despite confirming year-end world number one status earlier in the event, Alcaraz fell to ATP number two Sinner in the final, losing in straight sets, 7-6, 7-5.
The Italian narrowly clinched the first set in a tiebreak after both stars held serve throughout the tense opener.

Alcaraz secured an early break in set two, but his lead was quickly erased by the defiant home hope, who ultimately went on to hoist a second consecutive crown in Turin.
Following his defeat, the Spaniard said Sinner did something during the match that ‘surprised’ him.

When asked in his post-match press conference what made the difference between the two stars, Alcaraz responded: “Well, I didn’t take the opportunities he brought me in the match in the first place, let’s say.
“The set point in the first set, I was returning pretty well. The second set, I was returning pretty well. But he came up with a second serve at 185, 190 [km/h] that surprised me, to be honest.
Is another Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner final good for men’s tennis?
“After that, I think I had a few points that I could have won that I lost. Obviously, in the second set, break up. It was 30-15 serving that I didn’t make it.
“Right now, I have some points and some shots on my mind. For example, the backhand volley that I missed. I missed a few of the backhand volleys. I made a few not really well ones, which I’m really disappointed in those places.
“I would say that was the key because it was really important moments that I didn’t finish the point with the backhand volley.
“I make him make the passing or making the lob or making whatever. I think that was a really important shot that I didn’t do well today.”

Carlos Alcaraz gives an update on his injury during the match
Alcaraz received medical attention during his match with Sinner and had his upper leg taped by a physio.
Providing an update on the injury, the 22-year-old said: “I felt something in the hamstring after trying to catch one serve.
“I could say it didn’t affect me too much, to be honest, because I could run well, I could go to the balls well.
“Obviously, the thoughts about how it’s going to be if I do crazy things that I’m used to doing, how it’s going to be, those thoughts were in my mind sometimes. But I could play well.
“Don’t get me wrong, because I’m not going to say I could play better or I could do something better if my hamstring were well. I could play a really good tennis with it. The loss is because he deserved it.”
Alcaraz will now travel to Bologna to represent Spain in the Davis Cup, having confirmed he will still play at the tournament after the final with Sinner.
