Carlos Alcaraz has received high praise from Alex Corretja ahead of his return to Indian Wells.

Alcaraz has taken part in two tournaments ahead of the first ATP Masters 1000 event of the season, winning both.

He completed the career Grand Slam at the Australian Open before securing the Qatar Open title, where he took his record for the season to 12-0.

Former ATP number two Corretja has now praised Alcaraz’s efforts and his approach as he chases further success at Indian Wells.

Alex Corretja praises Carlos Alcaraz’s balance ahead of Indian Wells

Corretja told TNT Sports: “I think Alcaraz arrives incredibly because the start of the season could not have been better.

“I think he has found an incredible balance in terms of feeling on the court, off the court. He looks very mature, he looks very stable, he looks very convinced of what he wants.

“I also think that the tournament selection is very good because, after having won in Australia, he has taken his time, he has been able to rest, recover, return to training and arrive in Doha in a brilliant way and that has given him the title again.

“Now they have stopped for a few days, he has regained energy and is going back to Indian Wells. A person like him, who is so explosive, must do this.

“It’s like a little up and a little down and so on. That is the best Carlos can do to make the most of his possibilities.”

It certainly has been smart scheduling from Alcaraz, although it was perhaps obvious given his issues with the calendar.

Alcaraz thinks there are too many mandatory tournaments, with the Spaniard therefore now taking matters into his own hands about his playing time.

Alex Corretja welcomes ‘good investment’ from Jannik Sinner

Alcaraz will take on the Miami Open after Indian Wells, but neither he nor his rivals will be looking ahead to that event right now.

The ATP players comprising the very strong field at Indian Wells will all be eyeing the title, which would be a first of the season for Jannik Sinner.

Sinner admitted he was willing to lose matches as he looks to try new things, which may suggest why he’s underperformed this season.

But Corretja is expecting the Italian to return to success very soon, saying: “I don’t think Sinner is having a hard time finding his best version.

“Because I think he’s incorporating new things into his tennis to, as he said, not be so predictable.

“But that has a period in which you have to adapt, you have to incorporate, maybe with more drop shots, going up a little more to the net, looking for more winners in a different way, varying something, but all that has a toll and I think it’s what Sinner is paying for to be more complete as a player from now on.

“It is a good investment on his part and I think that’s what he has to do if you want to stay at the top by winning Grand Slam titles, which I’m convinced he will continue to do.”

Like Alcaraz, Sinner has only taken on the Australian Open and the Qatar Open this season, where he suffered semifinal and quarterfinal exits respectively.

He’s now looking for his maiden title at Indian Wells, where he has an 11-3 record and has never made it beyond the semifinals.

Sinner has received a bye into the second round of this year’s tournament, where he will take on Dalibor Svrcina.

It will be the first career meeting between the pair, with qualifier Svrcina having just knocked out James Duckworth in round one.
