Jack Draper had a very different outcome to his match with Carlos Alcaraz at the Australian Open compared to their Indian Wells semi-final.
Draper has ended Alcaraz’s Indian Wells winning streak of 16 matches to reach his first ATP Masters 1000 final.
It was a very back-and-forth semi-final, with Draper and Alcaraz also involved in controversy after a video review incident.
This is the second time that Draper and Alcaraz have played this year, but the first of those matches that have actually been completed.

Carlos Alcaraz shares what he told Jack Draper at the Australian Open
Draper retired against Alcaraz during their fourth round match at the Australian Open due to a hip injury.
When referring back to that match following their Indian Wells semi-final, Alcaraz revealed what he told Draper at the time.
Alcaraz went onto suggest that he believes Draper will remain at the top of the ATP Tour for the foreseeable future.
“Well, I mean, I think he didn’t play at his best level today. I think everybody saw it,” Alcaraz said about Draper. “Today, it was a match that who better play in these conditions wins, and it was to his side.
“I remember, you know, in January when I played him in Australia, he had to retire. I said, ‘You will be where you deserve’. And he deserve to be top 10. He deserves to play a final in the Masters 1000. I am happy about him because I didn’t doubt about his level, about himself.
“He’s ready to stay there for a long time. He’s ready to play for the big events, for the big tournaments. I didn’t surprise about what I see today. Just it wasn’t an easy match for him, playing for the top 10, playing for the first Masters 1000 final, and I think he did great. He dealt with the nerves better than I did. So great to him and all the best in the final.”
It has been a very successful period for the British number one since the Australian Open, with Draper reaching the Qatar Open final and now the Indian Wells final in back-to-back tournaments.

Jack Draper breaks Andy Murray record after reaching Indian Wells final
Alongside Holger Rune, Draper has made history by reaching the Indian Wells final, but that is not the only record that he has achieved.
Having beaten both Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz, Draper has surpassed Andy Murray as the youngest British player to beat two top five players in the same event.
Draper was 23 years old and 83 days after beating Alcaraz, while Murray was just nine days older when he beat both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer to claim the Toronto title in 2010.
When playing his first Masters 1000 final against Rune, Draper will look to achieve something that Murray was never able to by winning the Indian Wells title.
Murray reached his only Indian Wells final in 2009, winning just three games against the aforementioned Nadal.
