Carlos Alcaraz is hoping that Rafael Nadal’s Davis Cup appearance in November does not serve as a farewell from tennis.

It has been announced that the 22-time Grand Slam champion has been named in Spain’s squad for the Davis Cup ‘Final 8’ taking place in November.

It will be held in Malaga which will give Rafael Nadal a chance to play in front of his home fans who have given him endless amounts of support throughout his illustrious career.

But should the 38-year-old put on his country’s colours once again, Carlos Alcaraz hopes it will not be for the final time.

Nadal was due to compete in the Laver Cup but he withdrew just over a week before the competition began.

Alcaraz was disappointed that he was unable to make his first Laver Cup appearance alongside his hero, but he is excited to hear he is in line to compete at the Davis Cup.

However, he does want this to be a farewell for Nadal, who said 2024 could be his last season on tour.

“It’s always great having Rafa around. I miss him. I’m not going to lie, I missed him in the Laver Cup. Obviously, as much time as I can spend with him, it’s a privilege for me,” said Alcaraz.

“I don’t want to think that it’s a potential last dance for him in Malaga. I just want to … enjoy seeing him on court as much as I can. It’s great support having him in the team. He can bring a lot of experience to the Davis Cup.”

When was the last time Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal competed on the same team?

Alcaraz would relish the chance to possibly compete alongside Nadal again after the Olympic Games.

The pair joined forces to form a dream doubles team and they began their campaign in Paris by beating the Argentine pair of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni.

They needed a final set tiebreak to get past the Dutch pair of Tallon Griekspoor and Wesley Koolhof in the next round, and they found themselves one win away from competing for a medal.

But the experienced American team of Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek proved too strong for Nadal and Alcaraz as they claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win, which brought an end Nadal’s Olympic career.
