Rafael Nadal is among the star names set to represent their respective nations at the Davis Cup finals.

Nadal hasn’t played since reaching the quarter-finals of the Paris Olympics men’s doubles alongside compatriot Carlos Alcaraz.

Alcaraz loved playing with Nadal, with the former continuing his busy schedule by competing at the US Open and the Laver Cup.

But the latter withdrew from both competitions due to injury, with tennis fans disappointed by Nadal’s Laver Cup absence.

The Spaniard will, however, aim to be back on the court for the Davis Cup finals, which take place in Malaga in November.

What Rafael Nadal told Spain Davis Cup captain David Ferrer

Both Alcaraz and Nadal have been named in the Spain team by captain David Ferrer, who said at the Spanish team press conference: “He [Nadal] told me about his desire to be in Malaga if we qualify. Everything was very easy because it was he who from the beginning wanted to be in the finals.

“There are still two months left and all the players who are on the list have to compete and see how they are, but the good thing is that there are many possibilities to combine doubles depending on physical exhaustion or how the tie is going.”

Spain certainly have a strong chance of winning their first Davis Cup since 2019 thanks to the strong team named by Ferrer.

Roberto Bautista Agut, Pablo Carreno and Marcel Granollers have also all been selected, with the side taking on the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

But defending champions Italy will be keen to shine once more, with world number one Jannik Sinner set to be involved.

They do, however, face a very tough quarter-final test against Argentina, who have Francisco Cerundolo among their ranks.

The USA have called upon Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton, with Australia including Canadian Open champion Alexei Popyrin.

Canada meanwhile, who ensured Great Britain didn’t make the Davis Cup finals, could go far thanks to the presence of Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov.
