Carlos Alcaraz is set to enter a tournament for the first time after making a change to his 2025 schedule.
All eyes will be on the Spaniard and now he manages his calendar after being criticised for playing too many exhibition events in 2024 and Alcaraz is set to play another exhibition in 2025.
Alcaraz also criticised how congested the schedule was last season, and complained it was ‘killing the players’.
But he has added an extra event to the list of tournaments he plans to play in 2025, and it is somewhere he has not previously appeared.
Where will Carlos Alcaraz play for the first time in his career?
In his short career Carlos Alcaraz has already competed in many different tournaments around the world.
The 21-year-old won his first title in the Far East by beating Jannik Sinner to win the China Open in October 2024, which is still the Italian’s most recent defeat.
In 2025 Alcaraz will return to the Far East where he has been confirmed to play at the Tokyo Open, an ATP event worth 500 ranking points.
The Spaniard has yet to play in the Japanese capital and their fans will be thrilled to see the four-time Grand Slam champion compete on their shores.
Alcaraz won his first title in Asia by winning the 2024 China Open and now he will aim to add to that collection when he plays in Tokyo in October 2025.
What is Carlos Alcaraz’s record in Asia?
Alcaraz has yet to play in Japan, but he has entered four tournaments in China.
The World number three first competed at Beijing in 2023 and 2024, and has a record of eight wins and just one defeat, which came against Sinner.
Alcaraz has also competed twice at the Shanghai Masters, where he has five wins and two defeats.
The losses came against Grigor Dimitrov in the 2023 fourth round, before Tomas Machac beat Alcaraz in straight sets to win their quarter-final clash in October.
