Ahead of the French Open final Carlos Alcaraz revealed the surface he enjoys playing tennis on the most.

After outlasting Jannik Sinner in a pulsating semi-final, the Spaniard became the first man in the open era to reach Grand Slam finals on hard courts, grass courts and clay courts before turning 22.

He came from behind not once but twice in their five-set battle to reach the first Roland Garros final of his career.

In Sunday’s final he will face Alexander Zverev who is trying to try to win the first Grand Slam of his career.

Carlos Alcaraz reveals which surface is his favourite to play on

In his young career, Alcaraz has proven his ability to be an excellent player on all three surfaces. He claimed his first major at the US Open in 2022, and reigned supreme on grass after claiming the Queen’s and Wimbledon titles in 2023.

Ahead of his first attempt to claim glory at the clay court Grand Slam, Alcaraz revealed the surface he enjoys playing on most.

“The best players in the world had success on every surface. I consider myself a player who adapts his style very well on every surface,” the 21-year-old told reporters.

“I grew up playing on clay but I feel more comfortable playing on hard courts. But I think my game suits the clay courts very well. But I just wanted to be a good player on every surface.”

Carlos Alcaraz aspires to be adept on all surfaces like Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic

Pundits and fans alike have described Alcaraz’s game as having aspects of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic’s playing styles.

This is what makes him so unique and difficult for his opponents to beat, especially when he is at his best.

Alcaraz has taken inspiration from these players and stressed his desire to succeed on each surface as they did throughout their careers. “I always wanted to be one of the best players in the world,” he said.

“If I want to be one of the best players in the world I have to be a good player on every surface, like Roger did, Rafa, Novak, Murray. The best players in the world had success on every surface.”
