Carlos Alcaraz shared his thoughts on if he thinks Novak Djokovic is tennis’ greatest player.
The Spaniard has contested some thrilling matches against the 27-year-old over the past two years and they produced another classic in the Paris Olympics gold medal match.
Alcaraz came just short of Olympic glory when he suffered a 7-6, 7-6, loss to Djokovic who won the gold medal for the first time in his career.
The 21-year-old was left in tears as he came agonisingly close to completing the European summer by winning the French Open, Wimbledon and the Olympics all in the same season.
What did Carlos Alcaraz say about Novak Djokovic?
Despite being on the ATP Tour for a short period, Alcaraz already knows how tough it is to play against Novak Djokovic.
He has contested seven pulsating matches against the Serbian, and has won three of their four encounters.
Alcaraz has become a better player through his battles with Olympic champion Djokovic, who has added to his legacy and his case for being the greatest player of all time.
In an interview with L’Equipe, Alcaraz was asked if he thinks Djokovic is the best player in history, to which he replied: “In terms of numbers, I can’t say otherwise. Everything he set himself as a goal, he achieved. But there are many other factors.”

What did Carlos Alcaraz say about his loss to Novak Djokovic at the Olympics?
Alcaraz enjoyed a magical run which included winning the French Open and Wimbledon titles.
He was aiming to become the first man since Rafael Nadal to win those titles and the Olympic gold medal in the same season.
But Djokovic produced an inspired performance as he repelled the advances of the explosive Spaniard and broke him down in two tie breaks to win the title.
Alcaraz commented on how difficult it was to break through Djokovic and despite fighting until the end, he was beaten by the better player on this occasion.
“Djokovic was hungry,” Alcaraz added. “I had a very impressive Novak Djokovic in front of me, a hungry Novak. He didn’t let me take my chance. I tried everything. I fought until the last ball.”
