Carlos Alcaraz has sent a fierce warning to his Australian Open rivals after storming into the third round thanks to a serving masterclass.
Alcaraz remarkably played at the same time as Novak Djokovic on day four of the Australian Open, with the Serbian also progressing.
The Spaniard needed just one hour and 21 minutes to make it past Yoshihito Nishioka, who he beat 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 on Margaret Court Arena.
ATP number three Alcaraz also eased past Alexander Shevchenko in round one, with the third seed winning 6-1, 7-5, 6-1.
Alcaraz is eyeing a career Grand Slam at the Australian Open, having already won the French Open, US Open and Wimbledon twice.

A win for the 21-year-old against the world number 65 was expected, but Alcaraz will be delighted to have come through so quickly and without much difficulty.
And he has his serving to thank for such a commanding win, with the Spaniard setting a new Grand Slam career-high of 89% first serve points won, as per Bastien Fachan.

Alcaraz was clearly aware of his superb efforts in that area, having written on the camera after the match: “Am I a serve bot?”

The four-time Grand Slam winner also fired 14 aces and progressed without facing a break point, with a fastest serve of 210km/h recorded.
Alcaraz also came close to another personal best as he dropped just five games, only one more than he did against J.J. Wolf on his way to the 2024 French Open title.
His latest display, albeit against a sub-50 ranked player, will remind the rest of the main draw just how lethal the Spaniard can be on his day.
Alcaraz now meets Nuno Borges in the third round of the Australian Open, with the latter having just knocked out Australian 27th seed Jordan Thompson.
The former’s display continues a common theme in Melbourne, with Daniil Medvedev producing a serving masterclass in his first round win over Kasidit Samrej.
