Carlos Alcaraz won his 17th career title at the Rotterdam Open after beating Alex de Minaur in the final.
Alcaraz has wished De Minaur well after beating him, with the Australian now losing back-to-back finals at the Rotterdam Open following his loss to Jannik Sinner in the 2024 final.
Sinner withdrew from defending his Rotterdam title after winning the Australian Open, and Alcaraz took advantage of that to win his first tournament on indoor hard courts.
As a result he has become the first Spanish singles player to win the Rotterdam Open, with Rafael Nadal reacting to Alcaraz’s win.
Alcaraz equalled a Nadal record with his latest victory, and has also surpassed another of his compatriots.
Carlos Alcaraz breaks Juan Carlo Ferrero record with 17th title in Rotterdam
Alcaraz was without Juan Carlos Ferrero in Rotterdam, and instead was mentored by secondary coach Samuel Lopez.
However, Ferrero’s name has still been mentioned after Alcaraz surpassed him with a 17th title at just 21-years-old.
Ferrero won 16 titles throughout his impressive career and was also world number one in 2003, but has now been overtaken.
The player and coach, who have worked together since 2019, also share five of the same titles, including at Roland Garros where Ferrero won his only Grand Slam.

Juan Carlos Ferrero reacts to Carlos Alcaraz’s Rotterdam Open win
Despite no longer having the advantage over his player, Ferrero was one of many to congratulate Alcaraz following his Rotterdam Open win.
In a one-word post on his Instagram story, Ferrero wrote, “Vamoooosss.”
Ferrero will also not be present at Alcaraz’s next tournament in Doha, where he is once again set to be guided by the aforementioned Lopez.
Alcaraz will be joined by Sinner though, and Novak Djokovic is also expected in Doha after receiving a positive update about his hamstring injury that forced him to retire from his Australian Open semi-final.
The upgraded Qatar Open gets underway on Monday February 17, and is set to feature six top 10 players.
