Carlos Alcaraz is dealing with a health issue as he looks to get back on track at the Rotterdam Open.

The Spaniard is set to make his debut at the ATP 500 event, in what will be his first tournament since the Australian Open.

Alcaraz suffered defeat to Novak Djokovic, who was struggling with injury and had to retire from his semi-final against Alexander Zverev.

Carlos Alcaraz dealing with fitness issues ahead of Rotterdam Open

Carlos Alcaraz endured a difficult start to 2025 following defeat to Djokovic in Melbourne.

The World number now has a chance to put that loss behind him and try to win his first indoor title when he makes his Rotterdam debut.

But according to Spanish outlet Marca, Alcaraz is battling a cold, as he did when competing at the ATP Finals in November.

He completed a week of training at the Ferrero Tennis Academy in Villena and he is set to travel to The Netherlands on Friday to acclimatise to the court conditions at the upcoming tournament.

This will be the first indoor tournament that Alcaraz will play in February since competing in Montpellier back in 2021.

Carlos Alcaraz will be without coach Juan Carlos Ferrero in Rotterdam

Not only is Alcaraz struggling with illness but he will compete in Rotterdam without his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.

The 44-year-old has coached the four-time Grand Slam winner since he came on tour and they have enjoyed plenty of success together.

But Ferrero will not be present at Alcaraz’s next tournaments and he will be guided by Samuel López in his absence.

After competing in Rotterdam, Alcara is set to play at the Qatar Open in Doha and he will try to win the event for the first time.
