Alexander Zverev crashed out of Wimbledon earlier this week and now he might have a much bigger problem.

The German player lost in five sets to American player Taylor Fritz and was struggling with his knee throughout.

He took to the court wearing a knee support akin to the one that Novak Djokovic has been sporting throughout the tournament.

Zverev’s movement didn’t look great during his defeat to Fritz but after winning the first two sets it looked as though he may scrape through.

He didn’t, however, with Fritz producing a sterling fightback and now there looks to be some worrying news emerging from his camp.

Worrying update emerges on Alexander Zverev

The reigning Olympic champion at tennis is now facing a real fight on his hands to be fit for Paris 2024.

After Wimbledon, attention for some players will turn back to Roland Garros this year with the tournament taking centre stage in the French capital.

For Zverev, however, he’s going to start some rehabilitation as his team try to get to the bottom of his knee injury.

Michael Zverev said via Amazon Prime: Sascha saw a doctor again. He took 40 millilitres of fluid from his knee.

“Unfortunately, there is now a suspicion of something worse. Tomorrow he will see the doctor again at home in Monaco. More detailed pictures will be taken then.

“Maybe it’s more than a bone bruise after all. If it’s a fracture or a hairline fracture, we’ll have to see. But then the Olympics are in danger.”

Zverev would be a huge miss to the Olympics

It will be devastating if the French Open finalist doesn’t get the chance to defend his Olympic gold medal in Paris.

However, there is an argument that perhaps he needs to focus on the bigger picture.

Zverev will fancy his chances of a good run at the US Open at the end of August and he will want to be right for that.

The player has yet to win one of the four major titles that tennis players compete for and he will be chasing that dream in the future.

At 27-years-old, he does have time on his side but ultimately, he must now focus on getting fit and back to his best after his Wimbledon exit.
