Boris Becker reacts after hearing ‘good news’ about Holger Rune yesterday

Boris Becker has now given his verdict on Holger Rune’s coaching situation.

The six-time Grand Slam champion recently left his post earlier this month, in which he cited ‘private commitments’ as the main reason behind being unable to fulfil his duties as a coach.

And with Severin Luthi having also left the team in January, the 20-year-old has been left light on the ground going into a 2024 which has started poorly.

So what did Becker have to say about Rune just yesterday? We take a closer look…

What Boris Becker said about Holger Rune

Fortunately, the 56-year-old was given some news to remark on, after the Danish tennis player had actually revealed his latest head coach.

Returning to Patrick Mouratoglou, the two have reignited their partnership, having spent many months together earlier in his career.

Becker would offer a heartfelt reaction to the update, as he took to X to write: ‘I heard the good news! @holgerrune2003 is back with @pmouratoglou ! Wishing you guys lots of success in the upcoming tournaments and for the rest of the season!’

Rune will now be desperate to get his season back on track after a tough first few months, in which Andy Roddick suggested he was looking lost.

Holger Rune returns to Patrick Mouratoglou

Having announced his split with Mouratoglou back in August 2023 after a nearly 12-month stint with the French coach, it seems that after such a tumultuous period he felt the need to return to what he knew.

After all, the two did enjoy some success together, winning the 2022 Paris Masters by defeating Novak Djokovic and cracking the ATP top five.

However, upon their eventual break-up, Aneke, Rune’s mother, would outline the ‘ego clashes’ that led to the termination of their working relationship.

With the young star having since revealed that she would be taking a back seat in his career, this is clearly a move which he is now driving as he seeks to recapture the form enjoyed during the start of his Mouratoglou tutelage.

The current world number seven has since noted: ‘I believe Patrick is the best person to help me achieve my goals. ‘I am excited to resume working with Patrick. With him I have achieved some of the greatest triumphs of my career so far, and I can’t wait for us to chase the next major titles together.’
