Bianca Andreescu is gearing up to play her first WTA tournament of the 2026 season.
Andreescu won the US Open title in 2019, but after struggling with her mental health and injuries she has been unable to reach those same heights since.
After ending the 2025 season ranked outside the top 200, Andreescu decided not to play in Australian Open qualifying and instead played at some lower-level ITF tournaments.
Andreescu’s decision was rewarded, as she won two ITF titles and rose up the WTA rankings to world number 161.
Now after playing three tournaments at a lower level, Andreescu has announced that she will be making her return to the WTA Tour.

Bianca Andreescu announced as a wildcard for the ATX Open
The ATX Open in Austin, Texas, is holding its fourth edition in 2026, after Jessica Pegula won the WTA 250 title last year.
Pegula will return to Austin once again as the top seed, but former Australian Open champion Madison Keys has been banned from the ATX Open for a second year in a row.
One Grand Slam champion who has not been banned from the ATX Open is Venus Williams, who has received a wildcard for her first tournament since the Australian Open.
Who is the greatest women’s tennis player of all time?
It has now been announced that Williams will be joined by another wildcard in Andreescu, who will be playing her first WTA tournament since the Tokyo Open in October last year.
Upon the announcement of her wildcard, Andreescu expressed how excited she was to make her debut at the ATX Open in a social media video released by the tournament.
“Hi everyone, it’s Bianca Andreescu here!” she began. “I’m super excited to be coming to the ATX Open in Austin Texas from February 23rd to March 1st. It will be my first time there and I’m super, super excited! I hope you guys will come and watch.”
Former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko had also been given a wildcard for the ATX Open, but it is now being reported that she has withdrawn as she no longer appears in the player list on the tournament website.
When did Bianca Andreescu last win a match on the WTA Tour?
While it has been four months since Andreescu last played a match on the WTA Tour, it has been even longer since she won a main draw match.
Andreescu has lost her last four main draw matches on the WTA Tour, with her most recent win coming at her home tournament at the Canadian Open.
How would you solve the tennis injury crisis?
This is where Andreescu beat Barbora Krejcikova in the first round of the Canadian Open, but even this win was not so enjoyable for the former world number four.
As she attempted to close out the match against Krejcikova, Andreescu rolled her ankle and was left in tears at the end of the match, despite still being able to win.

Andreescu subsequently had to pull out of her next match in Montreal, and was unable to play another match until two years later.
The 25-year-old will be hoping to avoid injuries when she returns to the WTA Tour at the ATX Open next week.
