This ATP player has joined a growing list of players who have already ended their seasons.

Numerous players on the ATP and WTA Tours have made this decision, with Jack Draper being one of the first to end his season.

Not all of these players have chosen to end their seasons, with Holger Rune’s serious Achilles injury forcing his decision.

Both Draper and Rune have now been joined by another ATP player who has been plagued by injuries in recent months.

Arthur Fils ends his season after withdrawing from the Paris Masters

Arthur Fils had already shown his potential in 2023, and continued to do so at the end of last year after winning two ATP 500 titles.

The young Frenchman continued this form into 2025, with Fils reaching the quarterfinals of Indian Wells, the Miami Open and the Monte Carlo Masters.

This enabled Fils to reach a career-high ranking of world number 14, and he looked to continue rising throughout the rest of the season.

Particularly with it being his home Grand Slam, Fils was backed to impress at Roland Garros by Andy Roddick and other former players.

Despite coming through a five-set thriller against Jaume Munar in his second round match at the Paris major, disaster struck for Fils as he withdrew from the tournament due to a stress fracture in his back.

That is one of the last times he has been seen on a match court, with Fils withdrawing from Wimbledon and the US Open.

The only tournament Fils has played since Roland Garros is at the Canadian Open, where he won one match before losing to Jiri Lehecka.

Fils has pulled out of all of his tournaments since then, with his withdrawal from the Paris Masters confirming that his 2025 season is now over.

Why will this impact Arthur Fils at the Australian Open?

Fils will now have the entire off-season to recuperate ahead of the 2026 season, which he is currently expected to begin down under in Australia.

However, after such a lengthy absence from the ATP Tour, Fils has dropped down to world number 30 in the rankings and that is set to continue further.

Fils is dropping 200 ranking points this week from reaching the semifinals of the Swiss Indoors in Basel, and will drop another 100 next week after the Paris Masters.

While this will still enable Fils to receive direct entry for the Australian Open, it could be detrimental to his hopes of a deep run at the tournament.

Fils is now very unlikely to be seeded at the Australian Open next year, and therefore could face anyone from Carlos Alcaraz in the first round.
