Aryna Sabalenka has developed into a tennis player that has plenty of strings to her bow.

Since the start of the 2023 season, the 26-year-old has claimed three Grand Slams and is a former World number one.

In addition to her fearsome power, Sabalenka has now become an adept player at the net and her deft drop shots have left many opponents bamboozled.

The best players are looking for ways to improve their game and Aryna Sabalenka has certainly done that and is only looking to continue in this vein.

Which shot does Aryna Sabalenka like to hit in practice?

One of the reasons that contributed to the success of tennis’ ‘Big 3’ of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic was their desire to keep improving.

Sabalenka has adopted the same mentality as her game looks strikingly different from two to three years ago.

This is down to her eagerness to practice certain shots to help improve the variety in her game, such as her touch around the net and playing drop shots.

The World two number is eager to do this to give her a distinct advantage over her opponents, and along with her power, this is a lethal combination.

“I love to practice this touch game because I know how much benefit it can give me in my game. I know that I will never forget how to hit the ball,” Sabalenka told the WTA Insider Podcast.

“If I can hit the ball strong and then mix it up with some touch game, it’s just too much pressure on the opponent.”

Aryna Sabalenka closes in on Iga Swiatek’s World number one ranking

Sabalenka’s main goal between now and the rest of the season is to finish 2024 as the World number one.

She has boosted her chances exponentially given her form since the Cincinnati Open. Sabalenka claimed the title in Ohio, which was followed by her US Open triumph.

Sabalenka’s latest title win came at the Wuhan Open on Sunday and she is now just 69 points behind Iga Swiatek in the race for the year-end number one position.

The Pole has not played since the US Open as she undergoes some changes in her team such as splitting with coach Tomasz Wiktorowski.

Swiatek is set to play the season-ending WTA Finals where she is the defending champion, and her and Sabalenka’s results could determine who finishes 2024 as the WTA’s top-ranked player.
