Aryna Sabalenka was looking to advance to her maiden Roland Garros final.
The world number one took to the court against her greatest rival, Iga Swiatek, in search of a place in her first French Open final.
It was Sabalenka who edged a nervy first set 7-6 [7-1] before her Polish opponent battled back to take the second 6-4, forcing a decider.

Stepping into another gear, the 27-year-old won the third set 6-0, advancing to Saturday’s French Open final.
Speaking after the match, the WTA Tour number one shared her thoughts on the crowd on Court Philippe Chatrier.
Aryna Sabalenka says the atmosphere on Philippe Chatrier made her feel ‘amazing’
During her on-court interview, Sabalenka gave her instant reaction to the crowd support on Chatrier.
“That feels incredible, but also the job is not done yet, I am just thrilled with the performance today and this win and the atmosphere in the stadium,” she said.
“You guys were, I don’t know, just thank you so much for the atmosphere you are bringing on court because it makes us feel amazing, thank you.

Sabalenka went on to share her thoughts on Swiatek after beating her for just the second time on clay.
“She is the toughest opponent and especially on the clay at Roland Garros,” she said.
“I am proud I was able to get this win. It was a tough match, a tricky match but I managed it somehow and I am super proud.”

After a scrappy first two sets where both Sabalenka and Swiatek looked far from their best, the Belarusian stormed ahead in the third.
Speaking to Mats Wilander after the match, Sabalenka revealed the key to her third-set turnaround.
“I am glad I found my serve and it was a bit easier,” she said.
“6-0, what can I say? It could not be more perfect than that.”
Looking ahead to the day’s second semi-final, Sabalenka was asked whether she intends to watch Coco Gauff play Lois Boisson.
“I will let my team watch it today, and tomorrow we are going to watch it together. It depends on who’s going to win the match,” she said.
“It is another great semi-final, so enjoy it, guys. I’m pretty sure you are going to be cheering one person on like crazy, and I’m not sure if I really want her [Lois Boisson] to win.”
The crowd in Paris has been going crazy for Wild Card Boisson in Paris, as Sabalenka will be more than aware she won’t have the crowd support on Saturday should the Frenchwoman beat Gauff to advance to the final.
Aryna Sabalenka’s record in Grand Slam finals
Sabalenka has contested five previous Grand Slam finals, emerging victorious on three occasions.
| Grand Slam | Opponent | Result | Score |
| 2025 Australian Open | Madison Keys | Loss | 3-6, 6-2, 5-7 |
| 2024 US Open | Jessica Pegula | Win | 7-5, 7-5 |
| 2024 Australian Open | Qinwen Zheng | Win | 6-3, 6-2 |

| 2023 Australian Open | Elena Rybakina | Win | 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 |
However, despite holding a positive record in Major finals, she has already lost one in 2025.
In January, at the Australian Open, Sabalenka lost to Madison Keys in a deciding set, as her dreams of winning three in a row were dashed by the American.
She’ll certainly be hoping for a different outcome this time around, competing in her first French Open final.
Sabalenka will take on either Gauff or Boisson in the 2025 French Open final on Saturday, June 7.
