Amanda Anisimova has lost her second Grand Slam final this year at the US Open.

Anisimova failed to win a single game in the Wimbledon final, losing to Iga Swiatek 6-0 6-0.

While she was able to prevent this from happening again at the US Open, Anisimova was still beaten by Aryna Sabalenka.

With the Grand Slam season now over for the 2025 season, Andy Roddick has made a prediction about what is going to happen to Anisimova next.

Andy Roddick backs Amanda Anisimova to win a Grand Slam title after US Open final loss

Despite beating her in the US Open final, Sabalenka still predicted Anisimova to win a major title in the future.

Sabalenka is not the only person who thinks Anisimova will become a Grand Slam champion, and Roddick has now continued this sentiment.

When speaking on his podcast, 2003 US Open champion Roddick insisted that Anisimova would break her duck in the future.

“Anisimova’s going to win a Grand Slam. She’s going to win a Grand Slam,” said Roddick. “Like your heart breaks, I’ve been in that situation where…I won the first one, so I didn’t have the thing of like ‘Will he will one?’, it was ‘Will he win one again?’, so the pressure set is rough.”

The next chance for Anisimova, who will rise to a career-high ranking of world number four, will be the Australian Open, where she has never gone past the fourth round before.

Andy Roddick names the shot that helped Aryna Sabalenka beat Amanda Anisimova

When delving more into how the match played out, Roddick was full of praise for world number one Sabalenka, who had suffered two Grand Slam final defeats this year before winning the US Open.

Sabalenka actually has a losing record against Anisimova, and had lost their match in the Wimbledon semifinals, but Roddick believes she had a clear game plan to beat the American.

Roddick was also struck by Sabalenka’s reaction after winning the title, suggesting that it felt more emotive than her three previous major victories.

“But, also like Sabalenka there’s some mental fortitude there man,” said Roddick. “Loses in Australia where she’s the favourite, loses the French when she’s the favourite, loses to Anisimova when she’s the favourite at Wimbledon.

“Number one in the world, gets one more shot. It’s this really weird thing where like number one in the world, maybe your year has to be really good to consider it to be a little bit of a disappointment.

“The shot that won it for her, she would serve ad-side, Anisimova would just firm up a return, she hits so hard. Sabalenka was able to take that forehand from the middle of the court, first ball without thinking was straight to Anisimova’s forehand. Like didn’t lean off of it, didn’t kind of fade it, she knew going in that as soon as it came with pace she was turning to the open court, she didn’t think twice about it. Cut her serve out wide, caught Anisimova fishing a little bit.

“It was a great effort out there from Sabalenka. We’ve seen her win Grand Slams before…she took her time. You could tell that was a lot of stress relief from the year and when it didn’t go so well. And I think when you have a disappointment it makes these moments if you are Aryna Sabalenka better, more special.”

Sabalenka is now a four-time Grand Slam singles champion, and has pulled level with the likes of Naomi Osaka, Kim Clijsters and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario.

The Belarusian’s next scheduled tournament is at the China Open, while Anisimova is also entered into the Korea Open.
