Andy Roddick has once again been praising Carlos Alcaraz.

After all, the Spaniard is one of this generation’s brightest young talents, having already done what few others on tour have managed across decades of dedication.

The future is so bright for the 2023 Wimbledon champion, and what he has just done arguably showcases his commitment towards reaching the heights many expect him to find.

So, this latest round of acclaim actually focuses on his management of this latest injury rather than any on-court heroics.

Andy Roddick on Carlos Alcaraz’s injury issue

Speaking to the Tennis Channel just yesterday, Roddick, who has been regularly vocal in his adulation for Alcaraz, has now lavished praise on the youngster for something other than his incredible tennis talents.

After all, it takes a mature and measured head to become a true great, paired with his immeasurable physical assets.

The the former world and US number one has sought to laud that maturity, showcasing the full extent of his intelligence by pulling out from this week’s Monte-Carlo Masters.

Roddick noted: ‘There’s no chance that there’s something wrong structurally, if he travelled to Monte-Carlo and if he is trying to hit.

‘You know, he’s been talking about his forearm for two, three days now, this is the smart thing to do especially when you have a Ferrari and the gas tank is empty, let’s take a play off, let’s go fill that back up and get ready for this clay court season.

‘There have been some injury concerns, maybe more than you see with someone his age, but I think this is a smart move.’

Carlos Alcaraz has time on his side

At just 20 years old, this young superstar is blessed to not only have talent, but also time on his side.

He can afford to take a step back from prestigious tournaments, safe in the knowledge that he will have innumerable opportunities to return and taste victory at that stage.

Already having won two Grand Slam titles, potentially jeopardising the rest of his season, and even his career by fighting his way through injuries, would be ridiculous.

It would make little sense when, as just noted, there is no rush.

He has already achieved what many will fail to do across their entire careers, and therefore much of the pressure is alleviated.

Alcaraz does not need to throw himself into every competition, and this measured approach will likely stand him in good stead to enjoy a supremely successful career laden with silverware.

We now wish for his safe and speedy recovery ahead of a busy clay court season.
