Danielle Collins shocked the tennis world by announcing her retirement earlier this year after defeat at the Australian Open.

Danielle Collins reversed her decision to retire from tennis last week, on Instagram, explaining that issues with fertility and endometriosis have influenced the decision to delay the end of her career.

2024 has been a great season for Danielle Collins, which had led to many fans questioning her original decision to retire from the sport.

Danielle Collins won the Miami Open earlier this year, a first WTA 1000 success for the American, which was quickly followed by another title at the Charleston Open one week later.

Her impressive results saw her catapulted back into the WTA top ten, establishing herself as one of the top stars in the women’s game.

Collins’ form has been so impressive that many are relieved that she will remain on tour for at least another year.

Andy Roddick is ‘happy’ Danielle Collins has delayed retirement

Speaking on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast, the 2003 US Open champion was more than happy with the news that Collins reversed her retirement decision.

“Purely from a tennis fan perspective I am happy we are going to get to see more of her,” he said.

“It has arguably been the best year of her career, certainly for six weeks, maybe two months.

“It was hard to argue against her being the best player on tour for that stretch, from Miami through to Charleston, even into Rome where she made the semis.”

Andy Roddick did however wish the best for Collins, with her off-court dreams.

“I don’t know how to respond to this because I think there are a lot of factors that have nothing to do with tennis,” he said.

“Is it the right time to start a family or not? I can’t comment on any of that.

“I hope everything else that is way more important than tennis works out the way she wants it to.”

What can we expect from Danielle Collins in 2025?

With Collins’ retirement decision reversed, all eyes are on her 2025 season and on what she can achieve.

Despite winning two titles earlier this year, Collins has continued to struggle at the Grand Slam level since losing the Australian Open Final in 2022.

Danielle Collin’s recent Grand Slam exits

Making a deep run at one of the four Grand Slam events will be a major goal for Collins in 2025, and January’s Australian Open could be the perfect opportunity to do so.

Her most successful slam by some distance, Collins reached the semi-finals in 2019 before finishing as runner-up to Ashleigh Barty in 2022.

The hard-courts definitely suit Collins’ game and she’ll hope to break through and end her poor run of Grand Slam results when she heads to Melbourne in the new year.

The Australian Open begins on 12th January 2025.
