Iga Swiatek has reached the semifinals of Wimbledon for the first time in her career.
Swiatek beat Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets to continue her improved grass court form.
The world number four has had a relatively challenging season, but Swiatek has stuck with her team which now appears to be paying off.
Grass has always been thought to have been the Pole’s weakest surface, but after Swiatek reached the Bad Homburg final and the semifinals of Wimbledon, she now appears to be enjoying it for the first time.

Andy Roddick explains what is ‘unbelievable’ about Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon this year
Former world number one Andy Roddick watched Swiatek from the Royal Box earlier on in the tournament, and was left impressed by what he saw.
When reacting to her latest performance on his latest Served with Andy Roddick podcast, the former US Open champion admitted that he could not believe what Swiatek was doing at Wimbledon this year.
Roddick was particularly impressed by how Swiatek played tactically against Samsonova, and backed her to reach the Wimbledon final.
“I’ll tell you, Swiatek,” began Roddick. “I know we are victims of the moment but if someone tells you at the beginning of the year that she goes 0-for on clay. She has not won a tournament since the French Open last year, and then somehow the tournament that could potentially turn the entire year around is Wimbledon.
“This is why we love tennis. It is unbelievable and yet we are seeing it. All at the same time. I love the way she is playing. I love the way she is returning.
“Iga Swiatek played great but strategically 10/10 match. She is in this thing to win it. She could win this tournament. I think she is a significant favourite against [Belinda] Bencic.”
Iga Swiatek vs Belinda Bencic Head-to-head
Standing in the way of Swiatek and a first Wimbledon final is former Olympic champion Belinda Bencic, who is continuing her rise up the rankings after returning from maternity leave at the end of last year.
This will be a fifth meeting between Swiatek and Bencic, and it is the former who leads the head-to-head with three victories to her name.
Swiatek’s last meeting against Bencic was at Wimbledon, where she had to save a match point to beat the Swiss.
| Year | Tournament | Result |
| 2021 | Adelaide International (Final) | Swiatek beat Bencic, 6-2 6-2 |
| 2021 | US Open (R16) | Bencic beat Swiatek, 7-6(12) 6-3 |
| 2023 | United Cup | Swiatek beat Bencic, 6-3 7-6(3) |
| 2023 | Wimbledon (R16) | Swiatek beat Bencic, 6(4)-7 7-6(2) 6-3 |
There are also some physical question marks over Bencic, who appeared to be limping in the latter stages of her quarterfinal win over Mirra Andreeva.
Swiatek and Bencic will be the second semifinal match on Centre Court at Wimbledon, which takes place on Thursday, July 10.
