Jannik Sinner is quite comfortably the best player in world tennis after his victory at the US Open cemented his position at the top of the world rankings.

The Italian player now sits 4105 points clear of Alexander Zverev in second place, with Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic dropping to third and fourth respectively.

Sinner claimed his maiden US Open title by beating Taylor Fritz in straight sets at Flushing Meadows, with the player dropping just one set on his way to the title.

The world number one beat Great Britain star Jack Draper in the semi-final and he’s now got a US Open crown to go with the Australian Open prize he won in January.

Sinner is only 22-years-old and there is now a real sense that he can dominate the sport and it would appear as though he’s going to take some stopping on the tour.

Andy Roddick shares what he noticed about Jannik Sinner at US Open

With Fritz failing to win the US Open it means that Roddick remains the last male player to win a Grand Slam title in tennis dating back to 2003 when he won in New York.

Fritz is now the first USA men’s singles player to reach a Grand Slam final since 2006 and the game does look to be on the rise again in the United States.

Roddick has his own podcast these days and because of what he achieved during his career, he remains a respected character within the game.

The former star player confessed he’d never met Sinner before the US Open final and has shared what happened when he did bump into him ahead of the match.

He said on the Served podcast: “Sinner is very calm. He’s the most relaxed person. I had never met him before. I met him before the final because it was like I awkwardly bumped into him in the locker room and it would’ve been awkward not to say something. But relaxed.”

Sinner can now dominate tennis in the years to come

The Italian has shared the Grand Slams with Alcaraz this year and there looks to be a rivalry developing between the two players.

At this stage, it’s hard to imagine it being quite as gripping as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal but it promises to be exciting nonetheless.

Sinner has developed a really strong defensive game and – much like Djokovic – it’s helped him turn some defeats into victories.

The world number one’s win-loss record this year is frightening and ultimately he could now become a force after his second Grand Slam victory.
