Andy Roddick pinpoints exactly what Coco Gauff is doing wrong on her second serve now

Coco Gauff is among the women’s tennis stars flying high at this moment in time, with the American in formidable form.

The 20-year-old has stormed into the fourth round of the French Open, and looks unplayable on the court.

She is yet to drop a set at Roland Garros this year, with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Julia Avdeeva in round one and a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Tamara Zidansek in round two.

Gauff followed those dominant displays up with another in the third round as she defeated Dayana Yastremska 6-2, 6-4.

Her hard work has now earned her a meeting with Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, with the latter certain to be in for a tough test from the very start.

But despite the impressive displays, former professional Andy Roddick has noticed an issue that is holding Gauff back.

Having previously explained that her ball toss is a ‘little too forward’ on the second serve, Roddick has gone into further detail about where he thinks Gauff is going wrong.

“I love Coco but her second serve needs to help her out a little bit,” Roddick said on The French Connection.

“The toss gets too forward, it has to come back. Not even like a traditional kick, because that’s not the way she hits it.

“Her toss needs to come back over her head a little bit. If you reach for a second serve, you can’t create the spin profile to get clearance over the net.

“The swing is fine, everything else is fine, she just contorts herself and falls into the second serve and you can’t really create the spin you need for margin.”

Can Coco Gauff go all the way in Paris?

Thanks to her current form, Gauff will be confident of a lengthy run in Paris, but she will more than likely have to beat the best to go all the way.

The American will also have to put past pain behind her, having lost the 2022 French Open final 6-1, 6-3 to Iga Swiatek.

The world number one also emerged victorious in the most recent clash between the pair, with the Pole winning 6-4, 6-3 in the Italian Open semi-final earlier this month.

Swiatek has stolen the French Open headlines thanks to her stunning comeback win against Naomi Osaka, which also blew many tennis fans away.

But Gauff will be working hard on a Roland Garros upset, having linked up with 2003 US Open champion Roddick in the offseason in a bid to improve her serving.
