Taylor Townsend is continuing to make headlines at the US Open after knocking out fifth seed Mirra Andreeva from the US Open.
Following Townsend’s victory over Jelena Ostapenko in the second round, the American claimed her second win over a seeded player in New York, beating Andreeva in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.
She is now through to the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the second time in her career, where she will take on former Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova.

Speaking on the ‘Served’ podcast, Roddick said of Townsend: “All of the kind of attention that was unfortunate because it was surrounding Ostapenko.
“But then to go and win doubles the next day, and then show up in singles; singular focus for Taylor Townsend.
“She’s such a tough matchup for the top players, right? The leftiness, the ability to take the ball early, the ability to come in. It’s just not a game style that you see that often.
“When she is playing well, she is a nightmare for the top players because she is so unpredictable. Her skill set is not the big, strong, hit the ball hard through the court that we see a lot of the time on the women’s tour.
“It is spins, it is off-pace serves, it is coming in, it is the threat of mixing up paces. It’s a lot of fun watching Taylor Townsend right now.
“Props for her focus in the fallout of Ostapenko when the last thing anyone was talking about was the actual tennis.”
Taylor Townsend’s flawless singles run at the US Open so far
In her impressive singles campaign at the US Open, Townsend has yet to drop a set so far across three matches.
In round one, the US star triumphed over Antonia Ruzic, winning 6-4, 6-4 to set up the clash with Ostapenko.
Against the Latvian, she was tested in the first set, but comfortably took the second, taking advantage of all eight of her break point opportunities to seal the victory.
Then, with the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd on her side, she was able to upset Andreeva in one of the biggest singles wins of her career.
