Taylor Townsend is into the third round of the US Open after knocking out Jelena Ostapenko, who was left furious post-match.
Ostapenko was the 25th seed at the US Open, but was defeated 7-5, 6-1 by the world number one doubles player.
And her frustration was evident during the post-match handshake between the WTA duo, which was followed by an animated argument.
Townsend has since said former French Open champion Ostapenko told her she had “no class” and “no education”.
The tension seemingly stemmed from a net cord that went the American’s way during the match, with Ostapenko upset that Townsend offered no apology.

Microphones at Court 11 in New York heard the victor tell the Latvian to “take the L [loss]” amid their heated exchange.

And the American has now added fuel to the fire, posting images including the exchange and her celebrations on social media.
Accompanying the images, she wrote on Instagram: “Brought the fire, some people can’t take the heat. Onto the next! Love y’all.”
Who is WTA doubles number one Taylor Townsend?
ATP star Ben Shelton thinks Townsend is the best mixed doubles player in the world right now, with the duo having played together at the US Open.
In the revamped mixed doubles event that took place during Fan Week, the American duo were among the many high-profile pairings.
But Shelton and Townsend failed to make it past the quarterfinals, losing to Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison after beating Amanda Anisimova and Holger Rune in round one.
Townsend has, however, recovered to reach the third round of the singles event, where she takes on fifth seed Mirra Andreeva.
