Andy Murray shocked the world when he agreed to become Novak Djokovic’s coach in 2025.
Seeing the pair on the same side of the net was something fans did not expect when the season began.
Since they began warming up together, Murray helped guide the Serbian to the semi-finals of the Australian Open, and the Miami Open final.
Plenty have had their say on the all-star partnership, but now one of Murray’s former coaches and French Open tournament director Amelie Mauresmo has had her say.

Amelie Mauresmo says what surprised her about Andy Murray coaching Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic is no stranger to having a big name in his coaching box, after previously being coached by Boris Becker and Goran Ivanisevic.
But hiring Andy Murray, just a matter of months after he retired from tennis at the Paris Olympics, was something completely unexpected.
Mauresmo, who coached Murray from 2014 to 2016, shared her thoughts and admitted what surprised her about the alliance.
“I was surprised but not shocked kind of. It’s something that resembles both of them. One for Novak to have this kind of thought, having the idea to call Andy,” Muaresmo told the French Open’s YouTube channel.
“Because Novak has been coached by Boris Becker and he is always looking for a new pair of eyes to see his game and bring him new things and also the friendship they have is maybe something that he needed.
“And then for Andy to say yes, I am not that surprised or not shocked. Because he loves challenges and he is a guy that is curious about everything.
“I thought he would go into coaching but not as early as this, especially because of the family to be honest. I did not see him travelling again, although he is travelling less than he was playing, but I did not see him travelling as much with the four kids.”

Novak Djokovic explains the benefits of having Andy Murray as his coach
Djokovic shocked tennis to its core when he announced that one of his former rivals would become his new coach.
It is unknown how long this partnership will last, but they are enjoying their time working together and it would be a surprise if Murray was not in Djokovic’s box at the French Open.
Back in March ahead of the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open, Djokovic told Sky Sports what Murray offers him and how he helps the team.
“He obviously has a unique perspective on my game. He has played me and all of the current best players in the world and knows everyone well,” Djokovic said.
“He knows exactly what we need to do tactically – the evolution of my game and what needs to be improved.
“He has a positive approach and has handled the whole pressure very well as it is a completely different situation from being there as a player.”
