American ATP star withdraws from Wimbledon after once claiming he was ‘one of the favourites’ to win it

Wimbledon is the next big tournament for the ATP stars to look forward to, and for many, it’s the only Grand Slam that truly matters.

The English major has a tradition like none of the others, and it won’t be long before the players are donning the whites and taking to SW19 for a fortnight of tennis.

Yesterday, Alejandro Tabilo was ruled out of Wimbledon, and that’s opened the door for former finalist Marin Cilic to take a place in the main draw at this year’s event.

American tennis is on the rise, with Taylor Fritz up to world number four again after his win in the BOSS Open on Sunday against Alexander Zverev.

However, for one of Fritz’s compatriots, it’s hard luck as he’s been forced to pull out of Wimbledon amid an injury that has hampered his year.

Seb Korda withdraws from Wimbledon 2025

For Korda, it’s proved a heartbreaking decision, but ultimately, as a young player, he has to do what is right for himself going forward.

The 24-year-old lost to Frances Tiafoe at the recent French Open but hasn’t played since and has now made the decision not to take part in Wimbledon this year.

It’s been confirmed today that Korda has now forfeited his place in the competition, with American player Christopher Eubanks now the fortunate one to benefit.

The suggestion is that he’s still struggling physically and having not played a match on grass, he’s decided to pull out in agonising circumstances.

Korda was once backed himself to win Wimbledon

The talented player isn’t short of confidence and in 2023, he suggested that he was one of the players in the mix to claim the title.

His confidence was somewhat blind as he lost in the first round to Czech player Jiri Vesely in four sets.

Going into the tournament, Korda told Tennis TV: “I’m very confident in myself on a grass court. I’m an aggressive player, like to come to the net, I have good hands and I definitely feel as if I’m one of the favourites at Wimbledon.”

Korda has only ever had a run to the fourth round once at Wimbledon and that came all the way back in 2021.

Now, he will have to wait another year to improve on that with the American world number 26 making the tough decision to withdraw from this year’s Wimbledon.
