Amanda Anisimova has bowed out of the Australian Open after suffering a quarterfinal defeat to Jessica Pegula.
Anisimova has historically struggled against Pegula, and that was the case once more as she was beaten 6-2, 7-6(7-1).
Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena played host to the battle between the two WTA Americans, with Pegula set to return for her Australian Open semifinal with Elena Rybakina.
Pegula has now reached the final four in Melbourne for the very first time in her career, representing her second-best Grand Slam run after her 2024 US Open runner-up spot.

Amanda Anisimova wishes Jessica Pegula luck at the Australian Open
Coco Gauff wanted Anisimova to do well at the Australian Open, with the latter now wishing the same for Pegula.
After her exit, Anisimova posted on Instagram: “Still living and learning, thank you Australia, always a pleasure, and see you next year.
“Thanks for all the support everyone, and thanks to my team for putting up with me. Great playing Jess (as always) and good luck!”

What is Jessica Pegula’s career Grand Slam record?
Pegula will now be full of confidence after passing a very tough test against Anisimova with flying colours.
The latter stormed her way to two Grand Slam finals last season, losing on both occasions at Wimbledon and the US Open.
Who is going to win the men’s Australian Open title?
Pegula, in contrast, has made just one Grand Slam final appearance, when she was defeated by Aryna Sabalenka in New York.
There will, however, be added pressure on her shoulders against Rybakina, who impressively eased past Iga Swiatek in their quarterfinal tie.
After Sabalenka beat Iva Jovic and Elina Svitolina knocked out Coco Gauff, Pegula is the last American remaining in the event.

And that is across both women’s and men’s singles, with Learner Tien and Ben Shelton both losing at the quarterfinal stage.
But Pegula will be boosted by having not dropped a single set so far, along with her round four victory over defending champion Madison Keys.
