Amanda Anisimova appears to be the mistress of resilience when it comes to playing tennis.

After losing 6-0, 6-0 in her first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, Anisimova bounced back to reach the US Open final, where she lost to Aryna Sabalenka.

Anisimova is now back on the court after Flushing Meadows and looks on a collision course to head into the WTA Finals in good shape with some solid displays at the China Open.

Anisimova thrashed Katie Boulter earlier in the tournament, and on Sunday, she made it through to the round of 16 with a dominant display over home favourite Zhang Shuai.

Anisimova has made some tweaks to her game this year, and now she’s joined an elite group of players to reach a certain milestone.

Amanda Anisimova reaches milestone after win over Zhang Shuai

After winning a gruelling tie-breaker to take set number one, Anisimova raced to victory by taking the second set by a bagel against the Chinese player.

Now, Anisimova has become the third player born since 2000 to win 150 WTA Tour-level matches behind Coco Gauff and Iga Swiatek.

It’s quite remarkable that Anisimova has achieved this feat, given that she took a break from tennis for a period of time, missing three major tournaments in 2023.

Now, Anisimova is the world number four, and this feat highlights just how much quality she possesses when she brings her A-game to the court.

Anisimova can win a big title in the next few years

Sabalenka made a prediction about Anisimova after beating her in the US Open final, and it does appear that it will come true.

Reaching finals will give her invaluable experience and ultimately, it’s only a matter of time before she gets over the line and wins one of the game’s big prizes.

At 24-years-old Anisimova has bags of time on her side, and all she really needs is a fraction of luck in one of the big tournaments, and she should grab a top prize.

Anisimova’s back story is one of retribution and given how she’s made a roaring comeback to the sport, it would be great to see her finally get over the line after two near misses.
