As he prepares for another gruelling season Alexander Zverev has summed up his 2024 campaign.
The German found his range of consistency over the past 12 months for the first time since returning from a horrific ankle injury at the 2022 French Open.
The 27-year-old had fallen behind the likes of Holger Rune, Taylor Fritz and Casper Ruud, but he certainly re-established himself as one of the world’s best in 2024.
Zverev was one of the plates that issued the toughest challenge to Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, and he is in a good position to further cause them problems in 2025.
How does Alexander Zverev sum up his 2024 season?
In 2024 Alexander Zverev made plenty of ground on those above him after starting the year ranked number seven.
He ended the year ranked number two and finished above Carlos Alcaraz, despite winning less titles than the Spaniard.
Reviewing his season, Zverev is pleased with the progress he has made over the past two years, but disappointed he was unable to win a Grand Slam.
“Of course it was a good year. I’m not saying it was a bad year,” the former Olympic champion told Tennis Channel’s A TO Z with Alexander and Mischa Zverev podcast.
“But I think that this was the first year I was competing for Grand Slams again after my injury. Last year I wasn’t competing for Grand Slams, the year before I wasn’t.
“I was participating but this year was the first year I was competing for Grand Slams. Did I achieve my goal? No. I should have but I didn’t so in the end it wasn’t a success in my opinion.”

What were some of Alexander Zverev’s results in 2024?
Zverev suffered some crushing losses at the Grand Slams in 2024, one of the titles he wants more than any other.
He led by two sets against Daniil Medvedev in the Australian Open semi-finals, before the Russian completed the comeback and progressed to the final.
At the French Open, Zverev found himself a set away from winning the title, until Alcaraz stormed back to claim a 6-3 2-6 5-7 6-1 6-2 victor in Paris.
Another five set loss followed at Wimbledon, this time to America’s Taylor Fritz, before Zverev lost to the same opponent at the US Open.
Zverev did win 69 matches in 2024, the second highest figure after Sinner, and claimed Masters 1000 titles in Rome and Paris, his penultimate event of the year.
