Wimbledon is getting underway today, with Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic among the contenders for the men’s singles title.
Zverev is looking to win a Grand Slam for the very first time, whilst Djokovic is looking for an eighth crown to pull him level with Roger Federer at the All England Club.
Djokovic hasn’t won a major since August 2023, when he won the US Open, and for a player with such iconic status in the sport, that does represent a disappointment.
However, he often looks at home at Wimbledon and looked very much close to his best last year when he reached the final despite knee surgery just weeks before the tournament.
Zverev is a huge fan of Djokovic, and he’s been discussing the legendary Serbian performer ahead of the tournament getting underway.

What Alexander Zverev said about Novak Djokovic
It’s fair to say that with Djokovic still reaching the latter stages of tournaments as he approaches his 40th year, the greatest ever debate is probably over.
Zverev is in no doubt as to where Djokovic sits in the race to be the greatest ever and believes he’s done something that nobody else has managed in the sport.
He said in his press conference: “He is the greatest player of all time.
“I think how he has shared his knowledge and what he has done for the game of tennis, for young players as well, is phenomenal.
“I think that is something that nobody else has done before.”
When can Djokovic and Zverev meet each other at Wimbledon
The clash between the world number three and the world number six can’t take place until the final, with the two players in opposite halves of the draw.
Zverev can meet Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-final, whilst Djokovic could face a repeat of the French Open, where Jannik Sinner, the world number one, proved just too strong for him.
The German will be desperate to get himself in the mix for one of the game’s big titles and having lost in three Grand Slam finals, he’s proved that he is capable of coming through the draw.
Zverev has beaten Djokovic on five occasions in his career and if the pair do set up a final date, he will hope to deny the Serbian a piece of history and collect a maiden major.
