Alexander Zverev has continued his shortcomings at the Miami Open, where he has fallen in the round of 16.
ATP number two Zverev has already played six tournaments in 2025 after his Miami exit, starting with the Australian Open.
Zverev didn’t process his Australian Open final loss properly, having been beaten by world number one Jannik Sinner.
Since then, the German has suffered quarter-final exits at the Argentina Open and Rio Open, along with round of 16 and second round losses at the Mexican Open and Indian Wells respectively.
And another last 16 exit has now occurred at the Miami Open, with Arthur Fils beating the top seed 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Alexander Zverev wants to stop losing matches from winning positions
Zverev has predicted big success for Joao Fonseca, but the former issued a verdict on his own game in his latest press conference.
“I have been losing a lot of matches where I feel like I am in control lately,” he said. “It was that again, so I have to look at myself more than anything else.
“I definitely played better here than the last two weeks. But I am up a break in the third, there is no reason for me to lose that match and I go on to lose four games in a row.
“In Indian Wells I am serving for the match. In Rio I was up 4-1 in the third and then in Buenos Aires I was up a set and a break. I am losing a lot of matches from winning positions right now and I need to change that.”
Alexander Zverev unsure why he is suffering recurring problem
Zverev was unsurprisingly left disappointed after losing the Australian Open final, which represented a third Grand Slam final defeat.
The 27-year-old has, however, had a golden opportunity to enact revenge on Sinner since that moment in Melbourne.
The Italian has been handed a three-month suspension, which meant Zverev had the chance to win tournaments, or at least go deep, and really close the gap on Sinner in the ATP rankings.
But that hasn’t been the case, and the German remarkably remains well behind Sinner despite the latter not taking part in any of those events.
| Rank | Player | Age | Official points |
| 1 | Jannik Sinner | 23 | 11,330 |
| 2 | Alexander Zverev | 27 | 7,945 |
| 3 | Carlos Alcaraz | 21 | 6,910 |
Frustratingly for Zverev, he isn’t sure where the root of the problem lies, having been asked what is causing the issue.
“I don’t know right now,” he replied. “I will have a conversation with the people around me and that I work with but right now I am not sure.”
