Alexander Bublik has revealed what he thinks could happen to Joao Fonseca in the future.

Fonseca is one of the most exciting young players in tennis right now, having enjoyed a breakout season last year after winning his first two ATP titles.

The 19-year-old is seen by many as a future Grand Slam champion, with Fonseca even backing himself to challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in the future.

Now, world number 11 Bublik has given his verdict on Fonseca, making a big prediction about the Brazilian.

Alexander Bublik backs Joao Fonseca to reach the French Open final ‘out of nowhere’

Bublik has only played Fonseca once before, losing to him in the final of the ATP Challenger tournament in Phoenix last year.

When asked about him in an interview with Spazio Tennis, Bublik suggested that there is still a long way to go for Fonseca, but backed him to achieve some big things in the future.

Which Grand Slam title would you like to see Joao Fonseca win?

This included Bublik predicting Fonseca to win Masters 1000 titles and reach the final of the French Open, even if not this year.

“To be honest, we have to see the results,” began Bublik. “At the moment, Joao has huge potential, so we always say within my team that if one day it will click, Joao can come and win two Masters in a row, I believe for example.

“But for now, it didn’t click so we’ve got to wait. Defining a player by a Challenger final is tough, and then he has two ATP titles now, so he’s only starting his way up to the top.

“In my opinion Joao can just explode suddenly, like semi of Roland Garros or final of Roland Garros out of nowhere. Maybe not this year, but one day we will see Joao just go up and win something big, like let’s say winning a Masters without dropping a set, I believe in that.”

What is Joao Fonseca’s best result at a Masters 1000 tournament so far?

Fonseca has begun his preparations for the French Open this year at the Monte Carlo Masters, where he is now into the third round after beating Gabriel Diallo and Arthur Rinderknech.

This is just the second time that Fonseca has reached the last-16 of a Masters 1000 tournament, repeating his performance at Indian Wells last month.

Fonseca now has a big opportunity to reach the quarterfinals of a Masters 1000 tournament for the first time in his career.

An opening in his section of the draw has occurred after Matteo Berrettini stunned seventh seed Daniil Medvedev by beating him 6-0, 6-0.

Despite not dropping a game so far at the Monte Carlo Masters, world number 90 Berrettini has not won three consecutive matches so far this year.

The only previous meeting between the two players saw Berrettini beat Fonseca in the Davis Cup in 2024, in a match that was played on hard courts.
