Alexander Bublik secured his fifth career title after winning the Halle Open for the second time in two years.
Bublik defeated Medvedev for the first time after seven attempts, emerging victorious in straight sets to hoist the trophy.
The 28-year-old trailed 6-0 in the head-to-head with the Russian before the final, but finally put an end to the nine-year-long losing streak with a statement victory.
He will now climb to 30th in the ATP rankings, meaning he will be seeded for the upcoming Wimbledon championships.
After his triumph, Bublik spoke to the media about how he was able to finally open his account in the rivalry with the former US Open champion.

In his post-match press conference, Bublik said: “There are a few matches that you feel like it’s not the only chance, but this is a bigger chance to win a certain match than you had before.
“I definitely felt like a 500 final, under really fast conditions, in the heat, favours me a lot, with the serve – it’s easier points, so he cannot control me as much as he was doing in our past meetings.
“I just stayed there, and mentally I was 100% focused. I did not show any emotions, I don’t think I even showed the positive emotions.
“The idea was to stay there and serve, if I have a chance to attack, I attacked, and we will see how it goes. It went amazing!”
Alexander Bublik says the clash with Daniil Medvedev was a ‘mental match’
Bublik continued: “In my case, in this scenario, it was a mental match from my end.
“From my end, I had to keep focused. I knew he would return well. He’s better than me with ground strokes, he’s better than me in most of the things he’s doing on court.
“I had few tools that I needed to execute well at the right moment.
“Obviously, the mindset and mentality going into the match, I’ve lost six or seven times, and if I did the same things, I should not wait for another outcome.
“So I had to change, and I did, and it worked.”
Bublik will now look ahead to Wimbledon, where he will aim to continue his red-hot form on the grass courts of the All England Club.
