Alex Eala explains what makes the Filipino tennis fans so unique after recording her best major result at Wimbledon

Alex Eala announced herself to the tennis world on the Grand Slam stage at Wimbledon 2026.

Eala reached the fourth round of the Championships, her best result at one of the four major tournaments in her career so far.

The 21-year-old became the first player from the Philippines, man or woman, to advance to the round-of-16 at a Grand Slam.

En route to her best Grand Slam finish, Eala dethroned defending champion Iga Swiatek, beating the Pole in straight sets.

Her popularity skyrocketed during Wimbledon, but the core of her fanbase remains those back home in the Philippines, whom Eala recently commented on.

Alex Eala discusses her fans from the Philippines after Wimbledon

As per ABS-CBN News, When asked about her Filipino fans, Eala replied: “I would describe it as community.

“I think we, as Filipinos, we are a community that uplifts each other. We are a community that is proud when someone else does well.

“And so, we can take inspiration from other Filipinos because we have a shared love for our nation. We have a shared love for our culture. And I think that’s very beautiful.”

After a strong run at Wimbledon, Eala will now set her sights on the North American hard court swing.

She will play at the Washington Open, followed by the Canadian Open, the Cincinnati Open and the US Open.

“My focus right now is to prep for the US Open,” said Eala. “I have yet to reconvene with my team. I’m sure next week we will have a good meeting, and maybe set some more goals after that.”

Alex Eala reflects on her doubles campaign with Venus Williams

Eala had a busy grass swing this year, featuring at four tune-up tournaments on the surface before Wimbledon.

She appeared at the Birmingham Open, which she won, as well as Queen’s, the Bad Homburg Open and the Berlin Open, where she made the semifinals.

Amid her packed singles schedule, Eala also managed to fit some doubles in, and her partner was none other than Venus Williams in Bad Homburg.

Eala and Williams picked up a win together before losing in the second round to second-seeded Olivia Nicholls and Tereza Mihalikova.

Reflecting on her time with the legend in an interview with GMA News, Eala said: It was an incredible experience for me.

“Venus has such a special work ethic and such a special mindset. And for who she is, she is so down-to-earth.

“So I just took that week to absorb everything I could absorb and learn from her.”

After reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon, Eala earned a career-high ranking of 28th in the world.
