Novak Djokovic sent shockwaves throughout the tennis world earlier this year, but perhaps not exactly in the way he would have liked.
Djokovic has hired Andy Murray as his new coach, with the former rivals set to link up in the off-season and in early 2025.
But perhaps 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic would have rather gained attention for his efforts on the court in 2024.
Djokovic withdrew from the ATP Finals, with that decision coming after the Serbian won just one title in 2024.
That success came at the Paris Olympics, where Djokovic beat Carlos Alcaraz after losing to the Spaniard in the Wimbledon final.

Alex de Minaur says what is ‘obvious’ about Andy Murray coaching Novak Djokovic
The veteran is now eyeing a strong start to 2025 with Murray by his side, with the Scot set to coach Djokovic at the Australian Open.
And that is a partnership that has excited home favourite Alex de Minaur, who told the Tennis Weekly Podcast: “Well it felt like his retirement didn’t last too long.

“He obviously misses the game way too much. It was probably the same reaction as the rest of the tennis world. Completely shocked. It was fun to see.
“It’s going to be an incredible dynamic which I am very much looking forward to having a seat for myself to see how it goes.”
Andy Murray becomes third former number one to coach Novak Djokovic
Murray certainly didn’t wait long to make a return to tennis after his retirement in August following the Olympics.
A hat-trick of gold medals was very unlikely given his injury issues, but the Scot still bowed out on a high after his glittering career.
An avid golfer, the 37-year-old has taken his sporting skills to the course since retiring, but it is obvious that he still has a lot left to give to tennis.
It is, however, a rather surprising move for various reasons, not least because he was once a fierce rival of Djokovic, but also because he didn’t take long to relax.
But the former is certainly not a new dynamic for the Serbian, who has previously been coached by Boris Becker and Andre Agassi, both of which reached world number one like Murray.
| Year | Winner | Event | Round | Surface | Score |
| 2024 | Novak Djokovic | Wimbledon | Quarterfinal | Outdoor Grass | W/O |
| 2024 | Novak Djokovic | ATP Masters 1000 Monte-Carlo | Quarterfinal | Outdoor Clay | 75 64 |
| 2024 | Alex de Minaur | United Cup | Quarterfinal | Outdoor Hard | 64 64 |
| 2023 | Novak Djokovic | Australian Open | Round of 16 | Outdoor Hard | 62 61 62 |
De Minaur certainly knows both Murray and Djokovic well, with the Australian boasting a 6-0 win record over the former.
His head-to-head record against the 24-time Grand Slam champion meanwhile is better than most, with De Minaur winning one and losing two of their three matches.
