The ATP Tour is readying itself for another busy season, with world number one Jannik Sinner very much the player to catch.
Jakub Mensik has compared himself to Sinner, but the former has a long way to go to emulate the latter as he gets his Next Gen ATP Finals tournament underway this week.
Sinner has been training with Martin Landaluce in Dubai as he steps up his pre-season efforts, with the Spaniard an alternative for the 20-and-under event in Jeddah.
The Italian won eight titles in 2024, including the Australian Open and US Open, where he beat Daniil Medvedev and Taylor Fritz respectively.
World number one Sinner then beat Fritz once more at the ATP Finals, cementing his status as the world’s best ahead of 2025.

Jannik Sinner was the hardest to break across the 2024 ATP season
And perhaps unsurprisingly, it is Sinner who led the way for the best percentage of service games won on the ATP Tour in 2024.
As per the ATP Tour website, he won 91.4% of his service games in such competitions, with Alexander Zverev in second with 90.2%.
In an impressive comeback season, Matteo Berrettini sits third with a figure of 89.8%, with Ben Shelton and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard completing the top five with 89.1% and 88.8% respectively.
| Rank | Player | Serve rating | % Service games won | Avg aces per match | Avg double faults per match |
| 1 | Jannik Sinner | 295.6 | 91.4% | 7.4 | 1.9 |
| 2 | Alexander Zverev | 300.3 | 90.2% | 9.5 | 2.2 |
| 3 | Matteo Berrettini | 296.2 | 89.8% | 9.4 | 1.5 |
| 4 | Ben Shelton | 294.0 | 89.1% | 9.5 | 3.4 |
| 5 | Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard | 299.5 | 88.8% | 19.0 | 5.5 |
Matteo Berrettini outshines Jannik Sinner vs top 10 players
Impressively, it was Sinner’s compatriot Berrettini whose figure of 90.9% of service games won topped the pile for matches against top 10 opponents.
The more experienced Italian looks set for an impressive start to 2025 after a fantastic recovery from an injury-hit period.
Sinner and Berrettini did, of course, link up at the Davis Cup, with their efforts helping Italy win back-to-back titles.
It is, however, the former who is the man with the target on his back, beginning at the Australian Open given that he is the defending champion.
But if he manages to take his service game to another level, a long list of titles can be expected to go Sinner’s way once more next season.
