Alex de Minaur has been backed to break the top five of the ATP rankings, having never hit that milestone despite his successful career.
De Minaur is an 11-time champion on the ATP Tour, recently collecting his first title of the season at the Rotterdam Open.
But his career-high world ranking is sixth, a position he currently occupies after the latest tournaments on the ATP Tour.
Tennis Gazette readers have been asked on TalkingPoints if they believe he can ever make it over the line, and it’s certainly positive for De Minaur.

After almost 1,000 votes, De Minaur has been given the backing of 72% of Tennis Gazette fans on TalkingPoints to crack the ATP top five.
His hopes have, however, just taken a massive blow, with De Minaur losing his opening match in Acapulco.
De Minaur had a fantastic chance to claim a 12th career title in Mexico, but was shocked early on by qualifier Patrick Kypson.
The Australian, who was the second seed at the ATP 500 tournament, lost 1-6, 7-6(7-4), 6-7(4-7) to the American.
What is Alex de Minaur’s record on the ATP Tour?
While De Minaur would be wise to chase progression as opposed to ranking points, he will undoubtedly want to crack the top five one day, and preferably sooner rather than later.
But that is proving increasingly difficult, largely thanks to the level of the players immediately ahead of him.
Carlos Alcaraz is dominating the ATP Tour right now, closely followed by Jannik Sinner, while Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev aren’t exactly slowing down.

It will be very disappointing for De Minaur if he does fail to get over the line, but at the same time he’s already enjoyed a fantastic career.
Importantly, the 27-year-old has a long way to go before he hangs up his racket, with plenty more success on the cards.

Of course, De Minaur’s Grand Slam shortcomings are another battle he is fighting, but whether or not he can reach a major semifinal is another matter entirely.
He has reached that stage at all four Grand Slams but no further, which arguably suggests that he may have found his level, as is the case with his ATP top five struggles.
