It was a rare occurrence for Serena Williams to play doubles with a WTA player other than her older sister Venus.

Serena and Venus won 22 doubles titles together, including 14 Grand Slam titles and three Olympic gold medals.

Before she could win any major titles with Venus or in singles, Serena won two mixed doubles Grand Slams with Max Mirnyi.

However, there is only one woman other than Venus who Serena won a doubles title alongside.

Alexandra Stevenson: The only other woman to win a doubles title with Serena Williams

Since Serena retired from tennis in 2022, her older sister Venus has played with different doubles partners.

However, there were also times when Serena played with other partners, including at the Sparkassen Cup in Leipzig, Germany.

Is Serena Williams the greatest tennis player of all time?

Serena was partnered with her compatriot Alexandra Stevenson, with the American duo receiving a wildcard for the tournament.

This was their first time playing together as a duo, and they took full advantage of the wildcard after making it all the way to the final.

However, Serena and Stevenson still had work to do, as they found themselves as underdogs in the championship match against top seeds Janette Husárová and Paola Suárez.

This did not deter them, as Serena and Stevenson beat Husárová and Suárez in straight sets to claim the title.

After playing her final tournament at the 2022 US Open, this remained as the only WTA doubles title Serena ever won without Venus.

The only time Serena reached another final without her older sister was at the Auckland Open in 2020 when she played alongside Caroline Wozniacki, but they were beaten by the pairing of Taylor Townsend and Asia Muhammad.

What else did Alexandra Stevenson achieve in her career?

Although Stevenson holds this record alongside Serena, she actually never won another title at tour-level in either singles or doubles.

Stevenson did still achieve some impressive results, including her breakthrough run in her first ever appearance at Wimbledon.

At just 18 years old, Stevenson came through qualifying to make it all the way to the semifinals, before she was beaten by eventual champion Lindsay Davenport.

This enabled Stevenson to reach her career-high ranking of world number 18 later that year, as well as reaching finals in Memphis and Linz.

Stevenson would never play doubles with Serena again, but they did face each other once in singles competition.

At Indian Wells in 2000, defending champion Serena beat Stevenson, 7-5 3-6 6-2, in a tightly contested all-teenage affair.

Stevenson would retire from tennis in 2018 and there appear to be no signs of her coming back, but that may not be the case for Serena, with rumours circulating about her returning in 2026.
