Though the tennis season has come to an end, the Next Gen ATP Finals in Saudi Arabia is just around the corner; a tournament that gives a glimpse into the future of men’s tennis.
Both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have won the tournament in previous years, with the top two-ranked players emerging victorious in 2021 and 2019, respectively.
Former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas clinched the Next Gen ATP Finals title in 2018, the year before his impressive 2019 campaign, in which he won the ATP Finals and reached the Australian Open semifinals.

Last year, Joao Fonseca hoisted the trophy in Jeddah and his since enjoyed a breakthrough year on the ATP Tour.
However, the winner of the Next Gen ATP Finals does not always go on to achieve big things in the sport straight away, as evidenced by the 2023 winner, Hamad Medjedovic.
Hamad Medjedovic’s struggles since winning the Next Gen ATP Finals
Medjedovic won the competition that year after defeating first seed Arthur Fils in the final, overcoming the Frenchman in five sets.
The Serb put on a solid display in Saudi Arabia, but his promising 2024 campaign began with an exit in the Australian Open qualifying.

He then lost in Indian Wells qualifying before crashing out in the first round of a Challenger Tour event in Phoenix.
At the Madrid Open, Medjedovic finally got his first main draw win of the 2024 season, but he immediately exited the clay-court tournament in round two.
The remainder of Medjedovic’s year was a largely indifferent one, and although he has been able to claim more wins this season, 2025 has not been much better.
Medjedovic did pick up a win against former US Open champion Daniil Medvedev en route to the final in Marseille, but outside of that, it was a relatively unsuccessful 10 months for the 22-year-old, who recorded a win-loss record of 17-16.

The young star has not won an ATP Title since turning professional in 2021, and has yet to crack the world’s top 50.
In August this year, Medjedovic achieved a career-high ranking of 57, but finished the season as the world number 83, his lowest position since February.
Hamad Medjedovic’s results at Grand Slams over the years
Medjedovic made his first Grand Slam appearance at the 2022 French Open, where he was knocked out in the first round by Marcos Giron.

He then entered the 2023 Wimbledon championships, but lost again in round one to Christopher O’Connell.
Following two more first-round exits in 2024, Medjedovic enjoyed his best Grand Slam result by reaching the third round of the French Open, but fell to Daniel Altmaier.
Since then, Medjedovic has lost in the first round of both Wimbledon and the US Open in 2025, and will now look to finally have his breakthrough season in 2026.
