The Madrid Open could be about to add two new names to the already star-studded honours list.
Casper Ruud won his first Masters 1000 title at the Madrid Open last year after beating Jack Draper in the final.
There was a more familiar face winning the women’s singles title in the Spanish capital last year, as Aryna Sabalenka beat Coco Gauff in the Madrid Open final to win her third title at the tournament.
Sabalenka and Ruud joined a whole host of blockbuster names on the Madrid Open champions list since 2010.

As with most clay court tournaments, Rafael Nadal has won the most titles, having lifted the trophy five times at his home Masters 1000 tournament.
Nadal lifted the most titles at the tournament, but every member of ‘The Big Four’ won at least two titles at the Madrid Open.
This includes Andy Murray, who beat Nadal in the 2015 Madrid Open final in his first victory over the Spaniard on clay, before going on to beat him in the 2016 semifinal as well.
Some of the more recent champions at the Madrid Open include Andrey Rublev, Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev and most recently Ruud.

Sabalenka equalled the record of most women’s singles titles won at the Madrid Open last year, matching Petra Kvitova’s achievement.
The only two other multiple-time champions at the Madrid Open are Serena Williams and Simona Halep.
Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur, Maria Sharapova, Kiki Bertens and surprise champion Aravane Rezai have also won the Madrid Open since 2010.
