Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams are two of the biggest icons the sport of tennis has ever seen.

Over the years, with the pair active on the WTA Tour, the sisters had many brilliant battles against each other.

It’s been said that Serena and Venus might play doubles with each other in the future, with the older sister partnering Leylah Fernandez at the recent US Open.

Venus has often beamed with pride over her sister, and some of the matches that the two players played against each other will live long in the memory.

Although most encounters were close, others saw one completely blow the other off the court, much like the third round match at the US Open in 2018.

The most one-sided win Serena Williams had over Venus Williams

This match between two fierce champions was fancied to go the distance, but in reality, it finished in 71 minutes and led to fans being somewhat underwhelmed.

Williams was irresistible against her older sister, and she would go on to reach the final at the US Open before losing out to Naomi Osaka.

After the match, Venus was quizzed on the performance and she was quite relaxed, suggesting it was the one occasion where her sibling had simply proved unplayable.

She said: “Yeah, I think it’s the best match she’s ever played against me. I don’t think I did a lot wrong. But she just did everything right. Obviously, that level is definitely where she’s going to want to stay during this whole tournament. She played so well that I never got to really even touch any balls. When your opponent plays like that, it’s not really anything to be upset about.

“She just played much better than me. The only thing I could have done was put more first serves in. Even then she returned the first serve really well. Any shot that I hit great, she hit a greater shot. Not a lot I can do. I mean, every match you play, you have to win. She didn’t win that match tonight because I just rolled over. She played untouchable tennis. Whoever she plays, she’s going to earn it. It’s not like people don’t try. People will try against her. I know people are going to keep that up.”

Serena Williams head-to-head vs Venus Williams

This 6-1, 6-2 victory was over in a flash, and the younger sister did finish with the edge over Venus.

Serena finished her career with a 19-12 win in the head-to-head between the two players and edged her sister in pretty much every department.

In the Grand Slam department, Serena bossed her sister too, winning 23 titles compared to the seven that Venus collected across her career.

Serena won 11 times in Grand Slam matches, with Venus claiming five wins, including the 2001 US Open final and the 2008 Wimbledon final.

This famous match from 2018 was one of a kind between the two and quite clearly, Venus had no choice but to tip her hat to her opponent.
