Juan Martin del Potro was among the latest International Tennis Hall of Fame nominees, but in the end he wasn’t elected.
Roger Federer has been inducted into the Hall of Fame, but his fellow icons Del Potro and Svetlana Kuznetsova have missed out.
The duo failed to reach the 75% threshold for induction in the voting process, while former ATP ace Federer unsurprisingly succeeded.
The Swiss legend undoubtedly deserves his place among the tennis legends, having enjoyed one of the most remarkable sporting careers in history.

The International Tennis Hall of Fame were right to reject Juan Martin del Potro from joining
Del Potro and Kuznetsova both deserve their places in the International Tennis Hall of Fame, having also given so much to the sport over the years, and importantly having achieved superb success.
But their omissions this year mean Federer is the only inductee in the player category, which is a fitting tribute to the iconic figure.
Is Roger Federer the greatest tennis player of all time?
He is deserving of his own space thanks to that stunning career, which involves 20 Grand Slam titles and 103 ATP titles among other phenomenal achievements.
Importantly for Del Potro, players not voted in remain on the ballot for the next two years, with the Argentine definitely deserving of a spot next time out.
Juan Martin del Potro’s career feats after missing out on Hall of Fame spot
Del Potro was always going to find it impossible compared to the ease of induction for Federer, even with his fantastic career.
The Argentine hero has one Grand Slam title to his name, having ironically beaten Federer in the 2009 US Open final.
He also lost the 2018 US Open final to Novak Djokovic, and claimed the silver medal at the 2016 Olympics after losing the final to Andy Murray.
The veteran rose to as high as number three in the world rankings, with injuries then playing a part in Del Potro’s official retirement at the end of 2024.
Steve Johnson doesn’t think Del Potro should be a Hall of Famer, but there is plenty of evidence to suggest otherwise.
