Coco Gauff and Venus Williams could form the perfect doubles pairing that would really benefit both players.

Gauff has endured a somewhat frustrating start to the 2026 WTA season, from which she has a 10-4 win-loss record.

But her struggles have fallen well short of those of her fellow American, with Williams having lost all four of her matches this season.

A blockbuster doubles pairing between Gauff and Williams could be the ideal solution for both superstars, helping them in very different ways.

Should Venus Williams still be receiving singles wildcards?

Gauff has continued her serving struggles into the 2026 season, with the 21-year-old already leading the way for double faults across the entire WTA Tour.

But Gauff doesn’t struggle serving in doubles as much as she does in singles, meaning more doubles matches should definitely help her reduce her double fault numbers.

She’ll get more practice with more matches, and the high-pressure situation of not wanting to let her partner down would be much more beneficial than a simple training session.

As for Williams, returning to success at the age of 45 was always going to be difficult, but she wouldn’t have imagined such a disappointing run.

The legendary figure has also had zero success in her 2026 doubles ventures, but that could all change alongside fellow American Gauff.

Their partnership should bring success in some form, which would provide Williams with much-needed momentum and confidence for tournaments like the US Open later in the season.

In another bonus, the WTA Tour, its tournaments and its fans would welcome the doubles pairing with open arms, with the duo certain to receive huge support should they decide to link up in the near future.

They have previously connected on the same side of the court, famously at the 2021 French Open, where they suffered a first round loss.

There is also iconic major history between the pair, with Gauff beating Williams at Wimbledon in 2019 on her Grand Slam main draw debut.

How has Coco Gauff served in 2026?

Many singles players, including Gauff, have chosen to take part in doubles on occasion in order to improve in various areas.

That often primarily comprises volleys and playing at the net, but it would be a chance for Gauff to try to fix her constant serving woes.

Her struggles have been well documented over the years, but there was hope that they would be solved or at least lessened following her appointment of biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan before the 2025 US Open.

But just as she did in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Gauff is already at the top of the unwanted pile for double faults.

She’s recorded a huge 103 from her 14 matches in 2026, with Victoria Mboko closest to her in that regard with 72.
