Alexander Zverev has to hold his head very high despite losing to Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon final.
Zverev drew praise from Tim Henman in the aftermath of the defeat, which arrived on the prestigious Centre Court at the All England Club.
At Wimbledon, Sinner claimed his second successive title in four sets, condemning the German to a fourth loss in five Grand Slam final appearances.
But Zverev definitely deserves big praise for reaching the final, having done the same at this year’s French Open, where he beat Flavio Cobolli.
Who has more Wimbledon titles by 2036 between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz?
They have 2 each right now…
Alexander Zverev should be widely praised despite Wimbledon final loss
Zverev finally put an end to his Grand Slam nightmare by emerging victorious in Paris, even if he did need five sets to overcome Cobolli.
The German fell just short of another memorable success at Wimbledon, where he was beaten only by the world number one and the defending champion.
That in itself is a very impressive feat, but Zverev deserves more praise for stepping up in the absence of Carlos Alcaraz.
The long-time main rival of Sinner, Alcaraz was forced out of both the French Open and Wimbledon because of a wrist injury.
Men’s tennis needed a player to step up in his absence and challenge the dominance of Sinner, and Zverev did exactly that.
How would you rate Alexander Zverev’s chances of winning the US Open?
Not only did he push him all the way at the All England Club, but he actually won the title at Roland Garros, where the Italian suffered a shock second round exit.
There were undoubtedly question marks over Zverev being the player to emerge in this period, but he has silenced any critics with his recent displays.
His latest run has also helped secure a major milestone, with the German having now reached the finals of all four Grand Slams, which again is very impressive and an achievement he can be really proud of.
Alexander Zverev earns big rewards for Wimbledon final run
Zverev has, of course, been heavily rewarded for all of his hard work on and off the courts throughout Wimbledon.
While Sinner earned £3.6million for clinching the title, the runner-up has received £1.8million for making it to the final.
Also very significantly, Zverev has just returned to number two in the ATP rankings, which represents his career-high.
The 29-year-old has risen one place, climbing ahead of Alcaraz, who will hopefully return in time for the US Open later this year.
Moreover, Zverev has also been able to match his Wimbledon final opponent, with both players having just secured their places at the 2026 ATP Finals in Turin.
