The US Open mixed doubles has been hyped up to an event not to miss this year.

Mixed doubles at the US Open has received a complete overhaul this year, with the event being brought forward to before the main draw of singles.

It is also giving priority to singles players, something that the US Open has been heavily criticised for.

Despite attracting star-studded teams including Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu, the US Open may pay for the Cincinnati Open’s scheduling this year.

Cincinnati Open scheduling looks likely to impact the US Open mixed doubles event

The current tennis schedule is often criticised, and that has been even more amplified during the North American hard court swing.

Due to the Canadian Open taking place over 12 days, the finals took place on a Thursday, something Frances Tiafoe called ‘garbage’.

This has impacted the Cincinnati Open, which has also been expanded to 12 days for the first time.

As a result, the ATP and WTA singles finals will both take place on Monday, August 18, and are set to impact the US Open mixed doubles event.

The mixed doubles event begins on Tuesday, August 19, and also features players that are likely to reach the latter stages of the Cincinnati Open.

Singles is always going to be a priority for the likes of Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek, and they are unlikely to be willing to rush to New York to play a mixed doubles event that could sacrifice their fitness ahead of the singles.

While there has been a lot of hype around the US Open mixed doubles event, it seems as though it will probably not be the spectacle they hoped it would be, something they will not thank the Cincinnati Open for.

US Open mixed doubles players that are still in Cincinnati

With less than a week to go until the US Open mixed doubles event begins, there are still 13 of the 26 announced participants remaining in Cincinnati.

This includes three full mixed doubles teams, as well as defending US Open mixed doubles champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.

The only announced teams that have no players still competing in Cincinnati are Mirra Andreeva, who is nursing an injury, and Daniil Medvedev, Novak Djokovic and Olga Danilovic, as well as Venus Williams and Reilly Opelka.

One thing the US Open may be thankful for is that Djokovic withdrew from the Cincinnati Open, as he now appears more likely to compete in their mixed doubles event.

The US Open mixed doubles tournament will take place next week on August 19-20, and it remains to be seen who will actually be there at the start line.
