Madison Keys has started her 2025 season the best possible way, with the American winning her maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.
Keys beat Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka in the first Grand Slam of the season, the former in the semi-final and the latter in the final.
She lost her only other previous such final at the 2017 US Open, but is now a major champion thanks to her stunning Australian Open success over the world number one.
Andy Roddick has praised Sabalenka despite her defeat, with the Belarusian having been denied a third successive Australian Open title by Keys.
Keys has now risen a huge seven places in the WTA rankings from 14th to seventh, with her triumph in Melbourne.

Three Americans who can win Grand Slams in 2025 after Madison Keys wins Australian Open
The likes of Sabalenka and Swiatek are certain to be out for revenge in the other major tournaments, beginning with the French Open, which is followed by Wimbledon and the US Open.
But there are a handful of American women who look certain to follow in the footsteps of Keys and challenge for the biggest titles later this year.
Coco Gauff
Coco Gauff will perhaps be the most disappointed American woman after the conclusion of the Australian Open, with the third seed having fallen at the quarter-final stage.
She did lose to an inspired Paula Badosa, but the world number three was in fine form heading into the tournament, having won the WTA Finals at the end of 2024.
Gauff has a great chance of another US Open title, but there is also great potential for French Open success, having lost the 2022 final to Swiatek.
Emma Navarro
Arguably next in line in potential Grand Slam winners in 2025 is Emma Navarro, who like Gauff lost in the Australian Open quarter-finals.
It was world number two Swiatek who got the better of the American, but she has impressively now reached at least the quarter-final stage in her last three Grand Slams.
The 23-year-old is progressing well, and may just be quietly confident of a maiden major title at Wimbledon or the US Open.
Jessica Pegula
A total of four American women now find themselves in the WTA top 10, with Keys joined by Gauff (third), Jessica Pegula (sixth) and Navarro (ninth), while Danielle Collins isnβt far behind in 12th.
And despite a disappointing third round exit to Olga Danilovic in Melbourne, Pegula is certainly still a force to be reckoned with at Grand Slam level.
