Taylor Fritz is set to feature at the Washington Open, just two weeks after his semi-final defeat to Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon.
Fritz lost to Alcaraz in four sets at the All England Club, after being agonisingly close to forcing a fifth against the Spaniard.
The American’s final-four finish in South West London marks his second-best result at a Grand Slam event to date, following his final appearance at the US Open last season, where he fell to Jannik Sinner.
Hoping to go one step further at Flushing Meadows this year, Fritz is featuring at his first hard-court tune-up tournament of the swing in D.C., where he’ll have the chance to end a three-year drought.

Taylor Fritz’s chance to end a three-year drought in Washington
Outside of his Grand Slam campaigns, the world number four has added two more titles to his name this year, after winning in Stuttgart and clinching his fourth Eastbourne crown.
Fritz has won a pair of titles each year from 2023 to 2025, but all six of them have been at ATP 250 events.
The last time he won a tournament at ATP 500 level or higher was when he triumphed at the Japan Open in 2022.
| Year | Titles | Tournaments | Level |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 2 | Eastbourne (Grass) Stuttgart (Grass) | ATP 250 ATP 250 |
| 2024 | 2 | Eastbourne (Grass) Delray Beach (Hard) | ATP 250 ATP 250 |
| 2023 | 2 | Atlanta (Hard) Deltray Beach (Hard) | ATP 250 ATP 250 |
He emerged victorious at three events that year, one of which was the Indian Wells Open, where he overcame Rafael Nadal to hoist a maiden Masters 1000 trophy.
Since 2022, Fritz has finished as the runner-up at three big tournaments, suffering near misses at the Munich Open in 2024, as well as the US Open and ATP Finals that year.
Entering the Washington Open as the first seed, the 27-year-old now has an opportunity to finally end his dry spell on the biggest stages.

Taylor Fritz’s impressive run to the US Open final in 2024
Fritz began his US Open campaign last season with three comfortable straight-set victories over Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Matteo Berrettini, and Francisco Comesana.
He then faced former finalist Casper Ruud, who took the first set off him, but the 12th seed battled back to advance to round four, where he met Alexander Zverev.
| Round | Opponent |
|---|---|
| Final | Jannik Sinner (L) |
| Semi-Final | Frances Tiafoe (W) |
| Quarter-Final | Alexander Zverev (W) |
| Fourth Round | Casper Ruud (W) |
| Third Round | Francisco Comesana (W) |
| Second Round | Matteo Berrettini (W) |
| First Round | Camilo Ugo Carabelli (W) |
Zverev suffered his second consecutive defeat at a Grand Slam to Fritz, who once again won in four sets.
In the semi-final, he met his compatriot Frances Tiafoe in an all-American affair, where, after a five-set marathon, he made it to the first major final of his career.
Unfortunately for Fritz, his opponent in the championship match came in the form of the world number one, Sinner, who won in straight sets.
