Sebastian Korda has returned to winning ways on the ATP Tour in superb fashion, clinching the Delray Beach Open title.

Korda defeated fellow American Tommy Paul in the final of the Delray Beach Open for his third career title, and first since 2024.

He needed one hour and 22 minutes to triumph on home soil, winning their all-American ATP encounter 6-4, 6-3.

Korda beat Paul in extreme conditions in Delray Beach, with that issue and his constant injury struggles making the title hugely impressive.

But arguably even more impressive was the manner of his entire run at the ATP 250 tournament, at which he was unseeded.

Sebastian Korda poses real threat after superb Delray Beach Open title

Korda started out at the Delray Beach Open with back-to-back wins over American opponents, both in straight sets.

He beat Mackenzie McDonald 6-4, 7-5 in the round of 32, before overcoming Alex Michelsen 6-3, 7-6(8-6).

Second seed Casper Ruud then went ahead in their quarterfinal, but Korda impressively fought back to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

A hard-fought 7-6(7-1), 6-1 semifinal win over third seed Flavio Cobolli followed, before his final victory over fifth seed Paul.

It was a ridiculously tough route to an ATP 250 title, with the field having also included the likes of Taylor Fritz, Learner Tien and Frances Tiafoe.

The run should provide Korda with a huge confidence boost, but also suggests that American tennis could have another threat, although patience is still required.

Sebastian Korda returns to ATP top 40 after Delray Beach Open title

American women’s tennis has been in a superb place for some time now, with many players from the nation winning big titles and flying high in the rankings.

Madison Keys and Coco Gauff won Grand Slam titles last season, while Amanda Anisimova reached two finals.

More recently, Jessica Pegula won the Dubai Tennis Championships, and she’s joined in the WTA top 10 by Gauff and Anisimova.

Which American man has the best chance of winning a Grand Slam in 2026?

It hasn’t exactly been the same story on the ATP Tour, with only Fritz and Ben Shelton in the top 10 at this moment in time.

More worrying, however, is the fact that Andy Roddick remains the last American man to win a Grand Slam, doing so all the way back in 2003.

But Shelton won the Dallas Open title earlier this month, defeating Fritz in the final, while Korda has just added to that success for American men.

The situation is clearly getting better, and the former world number 15 could very much join the conversation about the biggest American challengers should he manage to stay fit.

He’s endured a torrid time with injury, but hasn’t rushed his return to the top, with his recent exploits involving a run to an ATP Challenger final in San Diego.

Now after going one better at Delray Beach, he’s just soared 10 places in the ATP rankings to world number 40.

He represents one of seven Americans in the ATP top 40, with his ranking certain to rise further in the near future if he can continue this momentum.
