Alexandra Eala is usually a great returner of the ball, but she failed to perform in that area in her defeat to Linda Noskova at Indian Wells.

Eala played Noskova at Stadium 1, the main showcourt at the venue, which would have delighted her huge following.

But they were left disappointed after she was comfortably beaten by WTA number 14 Noskova, who triumphed 6-2, 6-0 in just 55 minutes.

Filipina ace Eala deserves praise for making it to the round of 16 at Indian Wells, but she may be feeling frustrated by falling short in one of her biggest strengths on the court.

Alexandra Eala produces poor return display vs Linda Noskova

Eala is an impressive returner, which often makes up for her serving struggles, but that really wasn’t the case against Noskova, as per the WTA stats.

She won just eight of her 38 return points, equating to just 21.1%, compared to a figure of 40.9% for service points won.

Eala lost with a first return points won figure of just 22.7%, which drops to 18.8% for second return points won.

The hugely popular Filipina also failed to convert her only break point, in what was a frustrating and very uncharacteristic display.

The 20-year-old was outclassed in the area by Noskova, who produced a professional display to come out on top.

Linda Noskova deserves praise for big Indian Wells win vs Alexandra Eala

While Eala was far from her best in terms of her return, Noskova does deserve huge credit for her entire display, having overcome both her opponent and her huge fanbase.

The 21-year-old was ruthless from start to finish, barely giving the Filipina superstar a chance to find her feet in California.

That is typified by Noskova’s 25 winners to 11 unforced errors, while Eala finished with tallies of 5 and 11 respectively.

Her fantastic efforts have now resulted in a quarterfinal clash with Talia Gibson, which she will be confident of winning.

Qualifier Gibson is, however, enjoying a dream run of her own at Tennis Paradise, and has already knocked out three seeded players.

After qualifying for the main draw, the Australian has defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova, Clara Tauson and Jasmine Paolini.
